TAIWAN LAWMAKER LI AO MADE A LESS THAN FAVORABLE IMPRESSION
ON THE PEOPLE OF HONG KONG WHEN STOPPING OVER ON HIS WAY
BACK FROM CHINA.

LI WAS THE SUBJECT OF HARSH CRITICISM IN HONG KONG MEDIA
TODAY ... FOLLOWING COMMENTS HE MADE YESTERDAY RELEVANT TO
DEMOCRACY IN THE FORMER COLONY.

LI WAS QUOTED AS SAYING HONG KONG SHOULDN'T FIGHT WITH
BEIJING FOR GREATER DEMOCRACY.

TODAY'S HONG KONG APPLE DAILY LAMBASTED LI FOR THE COMMENT
... SAYING ONLY A SLAVE WOULD GIVE UP THE STRUGGLE FOR
DEMOCRACY.

AN EDITORIAL IN THE PAPER EXPRESSED AMAZEMENT THAT LI ...
SOMEONE WHO SUFFERED UNDER A DICTATORIAL POLITICAL SYSTEM
... WOULD TELL OTHERS TO GIVE UP THEIR RIGHT TO DEMOCRACY.

About Judge John Roberts on Trial

NYRB:I believe [John Roberts]he was wrong to refuse to answer these specific questions. ...... He will have to consider arguments in specific cases before making a decision, and he will join a Court most of whose other members have publicly stated their opinions on many of the issues that will come before them without raising any question of fairness to future litigants, who must often argue knowing that certain justices are disposed to vote against them. His argument, moreover, wholly neglects a very powerful contrary consideration: that according to any plausible view of democracy the public has a right to know his views on matters affecting their fundamental rights in some detail before their representatives award him lifetime power over those rights.

A fun piece about the great divide (read, cleavage).

8/28/2005 New York Times Style Women Magazine
There's something mesmerizingly suggestive about great cleavage, the way the whole ingeniously configured architecture of the thing divides and conquers, drawing the eye onward and inward, toward the valley between two swelling orbs, indicating more supple delights just around the curve. Men, women and even children recognize it when they see it, which may be why I've always thought of it as one of the female body's triumphs: the physical embodiment of a come-on, a wink of flesh.

Chaw

Initial J, Jay Chou Greatest Hits"
D Main Theme,

Chaw)

======================
