ICRT News: less chinese literature for taiwan
I miss the good old 6pm ICRT news.
About this issue: "古道西風瘦馬...."
In my humble opinion, they are using this election-year issue to invoke the familiar "Taiwan--China" theme to their advantages.
To use this obvious example is just another way to garner public attention and win the publicity.
The serious debate should be
"which way is the better approach to increase our computer-literate (thus allowing rampant ideosyncratic usage) pupils' literary standard."
因為網路去中心化的特性,任意自創之文體(壞的意思)錯字可以橫行,如何來增進中文程度?

Taiwan's education minister says that much of chinese
literature is not relevant to contemporary life.
Du Zheng-Sheng is proposing that students shouldn't be
required to read weighty tomes of chinese classics.
The education ministry wants high school literature
textbooks to include more works from contemporary taiwanese
writers. He says they are easier and more practical.
Many teachers are objecting to the proposed textbook change.
they warn the move could lower taiwan's literary standards.

要不要公布detail學測組距
記得幾個月前，中央和台北巿政府為了可不可以公布學測組距(台北巿的詳細組距資料）而意見分歧。我的意見是，不要公布台北巿詳細學測組距。
Why?
Ideally, we would like to encourage pupils to study locally. So they won't suffer the long commuting or be forced to move out of their hometowns. Of course, the goals are to establish reputed high schools around the island (now, obviously, all concentrated in Taipei.)
If the detail ranking of each junior-high students in Taipei is to be disclosed (they did, Taipei government finally defied the plea from the Ministry of Education) -- but the ranking of the whole nation was made to be accessed by anyone, anyway -- it will inadverdently rank the junior-high school, thus makes things worse. More presitigious schools attract more prospect students. This is downward spiral.
If the Taipei ranking was kept in the dark, it will encourage students to apply for specific-interest schools (such as art, music...) and promote community high school.
The reason why most of the parents and teachers in Taipei are for disclosing the (specific Taipei) ranking is to take advantage of that information and pinpoint the exact (possible, of course) school for enrollment. In that case, short term interest is served. But in the long run, no one is the winner.
So, it's kind of philosophical.
如果要長期的教育正常化，我們要作一些短期內可能不是每一個人都同意的改革。但是，這一些改革並不一定是對的，甚至它的有效性都可以辯論。

Days of Being Wild
十三年。
這是美國等的時間。 不過值得每一秒的等待。
王家衛的”阿飛正傳”（Days of Being Wild)，正式在紐約的戲院作商業放映。
我 看２０４６時，王菲出現時的”翠綠”色調（衣服， wallpaper),真是breathtaking。再看阿飛正傳ＤＶＤ時，發現真如今天的New York Times的影評說的, ....many different shades of green,.....

passive-aggressive 與 機車

在心理學上的用詞,"passive-aggressive". 簡單說,就是很機車。
有人說話很衝,當然算是aggressive。不過有人是很會"張先生" (生悶氣),用遲到或嘴吊三斤豬肉的方式來表示不滿。
在文中,有個例子,說有個太太稱讚她老公是個"會用心傾聽,細心,且敏銳(敏感)的人"。可是有一次在車上,她只是去別的地方拿行李,他竟把她的座位讓給別人。他以為她換到別的座位去了。
或是有時候,當他有點神經(he is in one of his moods)時, 講什麼他都好像沒聽到,她好像空氣一樣。
passive-aggressive 的人需要一點心理幫助。他們人不壞。他們不會(敢)當著人說"I hate you"。 可是就像常聽到的"好啦好啦" (埋怨為什麼有人總覺可以決定什麼是對的,arbitrary authority)。

why 台北健頭?
健頭 in 台語 是 jackass 的意思,
oh, jackass 就是 "健頭" 的意思。
或者說是 pumpkin head.
Urban Anomie 則是 怪胎。在大城巿的怪胎。
或是異數。反正就是不太安分。
真正的意思 (ehhh, 都不能一次就說清楚), 是 社會上的一些失控脫序的現象。不過這是字面上的。
好了,今天的英文每日一字,就醬子。下課。

台灣立委選舉 在 12 月 11 日. 完全疏離感 (或 違和感 , 日文的說法)
不過,看到國父是不是 人 (oh... 外國人, that is), 有可能是一個attempt 來主導選戰議題． 我不大知道... don't ask.

Also the rapid exchange cross the Taiwan Strait will inevitably contribute to the solidification of Taiwan identity rather than erode it.

moma reopens on Saturday
紐約現代美術館(museum of moder art)即開幕 (11/20 Sat.)
"2000 START", 是一個在2000年moma的新project. 把美術分成
主 題,時,地 (Theme, Time, Place...) 而不是像傳統的依時間(pre-Manet, Monet, impressionism, cubism...contemporary..), 引起不少學界及嚴謹派的注目(我用注目, 其實要說,raise some eyebrows), 但卻創了高觀眾群(high attendance 要怎麼說, ha).

像紐約島的台灣
我有點想念紐約.
在敦南誠品的咖啡座,想像是Lincoln Center 的outdoor cafe.
想像這十年來,如果可以擇一年永遠如那年的喜怒,我會輕易的下決定.
原來最快樂的年頭, 也許收入並不多, 也花費的很少.
自己一人在Manhattan也不會有疏離感.
不過,有朋友的包圍, 還是現在最可貴.
糟了, weblog 第一大忌..... No sentimenal.....No wishy-washy...

My prediction: Kerry wins. no recount.
Almost every news media alarmingly warn there will be a very close election in US. Probably. But my reading is nobody predicted the tumultuous Florida recount in 2000, now they are all waiting for the possibility.
Perhaps, it's still a close election, but not that close.
Kerry probably can win by no-recount-needed margin of electoral votes (also popular votes). Period. Don't ask me why. I don't know. ;)
Why there is no news media stating the possibility of clear winning (though by a small margin)?
