After 2046
Wong Kar-wai's 2046.
Director Wong has said "everybody wants to do Wong Kar-wai in their movies." (sic)
In "2046," this time, Wong Kar-wai wants to do Wong Kar-wai as well.
There is nothing inherently wrong by "recycling" (or elaborating) on his past motifs and themes. I enjoyed the shot of depicting Zhang Ziyi's bare leg caresses Tony Leung's bare chest in bed, reminding me of the scene, in which Leslie Cheung kicked Carina Lau's leg off his bed in "Days of being wild." Full of playfulness and ambivalence of love.
Aaaaarrrrh. Life is great.
